The GATE Full form is Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (Gate-2016) is controlled by both the Institute has ordered by Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India. Both the institutes are:
- Indian Institute of Science.
- Seven Indian Institutes of technology. (Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee).
GATE is one of the most talented entrance exams in India. It is also arranged by different institute such as ( Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, etc.).The GATE examination marks help’s the applicant to get admission in post-graduate education such as ( Master of Engineering, Master of Technology, Doctor of Philosophy). MHRD and other government agencies also provide financial assistance.
Financial assistance in post-graduate programs:
It is necessary to score good points in GATE for taking scholar ship during Master’s programs and direct Doctoral programs in Engineering/Technology/Architecture, and Doctoral performances in related branches of Science in Institutes supported by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) and other Government bureaus. The University Grants Commission and Ministry of Human Resources Development declared that the scholarship for GATE-qualified postgraduate pupils is increased by 55%, from ₹8,000 per month to ₹12,400 per month in December 2014.
As per the directives of MHRD, the following process is to be taken for entry into the post-graduate programs (Master’s and Doctoral) with MHRD scholarship. Depending upon the terms taken by particular department of the Institute, an applicant may be admitted directly into a course based on applicants achievement in GATE only or based on applicants achievement in entrance and an admission test/interview held by the department to which applicants has applied and/or the candidate’s academic record. If the candidate is to be selected through a test for post-graduate programs, the minimum of 70% weight age is given to the performance in GATE, and the remaining 30% weight age can be given to the Applicant’s performance in test and academic record. The admitting institutes can, however, prescribe a lowest passing percentage of marks in the test. Some colleges specify GATE qualification as the mandatory requirement even for admission without MHRD scholarship.

The following candidates are eligible for GATE:
1- Bachelor’s degree holders or the one who is practising in last year in Engineering/Technology/Architecture.
2- Master’s degree holders in any category of Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer candidates those who are in the final year of such programs.
3- Candidates in the second or higher year of 4-year Integrated master’s degree programs in Engineering/Technology.
4- Candidates in the 4 or higher year of 5-year Integrated master’s degree programs or Dual Degree programs in Engineering/Technology.
5- Candidates with qualifications obtained through exam held by expert communities recognized by UPSC/AICTE as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech Disciplines, structure, and syllabus.
At present, GATE is conducted in the following 23 Section. An applicant can select any one of these.

Duration and Examination type:
There is total 65 question which is of maximum 100 marks and the duration is 3 hours.
The question which can be asked are of two type:
- Multiple choice questions (four answer options out of which the correct one has to be chosen).
- Numerical answer type questions ( the answer is a real number, to be entered via an on-screen keypad and computer mouse).
NOTE: The applicant will be given the blank sheet of paper for doing their rough work. Which will be taken after the exam gets over.
Result and test score of GATE 2016:
Normally the result of gate 2016 is declared after the one month of the examination. This result shows the marks obtained by the applicant, it’s all India rank and also the cutoff marks, etc. The result is announced only for the qualified candidates.
